Kitchen # Madagascar
« Kitchen Madagascar » is a project initiated by Mélanie Fréguin in partnership with the Alliances Françaises of Tamatave, Tuléar and Diego-Suarez. The aim of the project is twofold as it seeks to promote both artistic collaboration and social exchange on the island.
The artistic dimension of the project is presented in a six week residency of contemporary dance and taking place in the cities of Diego Suarez, Tamatave and Tuléar. Six dancers and three musicians coming from the above mentioned cities are invited to share and compose together a choreography led by Anne-Charlotte Hubert. The outcome of the residency is the creation of a dance piece Sivy sans Tsôta that will tour alongside One One One from the Swiss choreographer Ioannis Mandafounis.
Kitchen#Madagascar also focuses on isolated population or/and in needs. The mission involved workshops and performances in non-conventional spaces for dance, as in prisons, orphanages, centers for street children or in special needs.
Therefore, the tour of Sivy sans Tsôta and One One One has given the opportunity for the dancers and musicians to perform for and with them. These sessions have led the artists to share their knowledge and make sense of their work as much as to move people that usually don’t have any access to art.
Thanks to the Alliances Françaises, the group went and met a large range of people that brought a special and precious dimension to each work.
It is in these creative encounters induced by the merging of artistic and social aspects that Kitchen Madagascar finds its very meaning.
